MINDFULNESS is the practice of bringing your attention to the present "NOW" moment and reducing stress that comes with our busy minds ruminating on past events or worrying about future events. There are many ways to practice mindfulness. In this 5 day camp, we will incorporate a variety of mindfulness concepts and practices with artistic expression through a variety of art mediums. Come join us for this unique course offering and reap the benefits that mindfulness practices offer: Stress, Anxiety and Depression Reduction, Mood Enhancer, Increased Brain Neuroplacisity and Increased Focus and Attention.

Neurographic Art: This segment will teach attendees the process of Neurographic Art which yields both beautiful finished artistic pieces and develops our ability to shift our approach to stressors in our lives by learning to use “positive talk” strategies to self-soothe and shift our perspective about the things going on around us. You will start by drawing expressive, overlapping lines, releasing the stress we are holding onto. Then we transform that stress by rounding sharp edged corners/intersections, while using positive visualizations to shift our perspective. Finally, we will add color that breaks out of confined spaces and reflects our shifting moods.

Dotted Mandala/Breathing Stone: Creating mandalas is a creative and meditative activity that can help you relax, express yourself, and be mindful of your thoughts and feelings. Because creating mandalas requires concentration on details, it helps us to stay present in the moment. Mandalas also provide a safe space for people to express themselves artistically without the pressure of judgement. We will paint on rocks which will then be used as our breathing stones as we delve into the techniques and benefits of breathing exercises.

Mindful Painting: In this segment, we will participate in a short meditation that will help us ground ourselves in order to anchor ourselves into the present moment before allowing our inner visions and creative voice express itself in whatever way it comes out onto the canvas. A variety of painting tools will be provided for you to explore. Let go of the attachment to the end product and just get lost in the process of it becoming.
