Art Exploration 103 - Thursdays, 6:30-7:45pm

$20.00

In this class, students will be introduced to a wide variety of mediums, techniques, and styles. This includes drawing and painting mediums, such as watercolor, acrylics, gouache, pastels, pen and ink, and charcoal, but also printmaking, paper cutting, clay, and weaving, to name just a few. Students will learn or strengthen their knowledge of basic art concepts and techniques such as color theory, shading, sketching, and perspective. We explore art from different genres, famous and little-known artists, past and present, and art from a wide array of cultures around the world.

We provide your child a break from electronics and school pressures and give them a safe space to relax, create, explore ideas, meet peers with similar interests, and develop skills, whether they may want to pursue a career in the arts or just need a creative outlet.

Our goal is to expose them to various forms of art and materials they may not have at home or school. We combine directed projects with time to explore mediums on their own, using their own creativity. Some projects are short, while others may span several classes, but we try to make sure there is variety each month, even if within a single project.

The projects done in this class and Art Exploration 102 may overlap. Art Exploration 102 is for grades 3-6, so the same project may be done but simplified for that class, or maybe the students in this class are given more creative freedom. Since the grades overlap, you may determine placement based on your assessment of your child’s skills, or feel free to ask us for assistance with placement.

This is an ongoing class, meaning a varying set of skills and new projects are taught each month/semester.

At the end of the semester we will have an art show where the students can show off their work! We also give them the opportunity to participate in Fall Fest on Saturday September 27th, when we have our fall music recital, followed by an afternoon of stage performances and a vendor fair. Students are allowed to set up a table to show and even sell their artwork or other craft items, or have their artwork on display at our booth.

Is your child looking for a more independent class? For grades 5 and up we also have Art Club, which is less structured and students are given freedom to work completely independently, in an open, more social environment.

Does your child specifically like drawing? For grades 5 and up we also have Drawing 103, which focuses on drawing fundamentals to help improve their drawing skills.

The cost is $30 per 75 minute lesson, plus a non-refundable $20 registration fee (paid at signup). All supplies are included, including an art journal. Once registered, we will send you a link for setting up autopay and you will be billed as follows:

9/12 - 1st installment of $60 to pay for Sept (2 classes)

10/1 - 2nd installment of $150 to pay for October (5 classes)

11/1 - 3rd installment of $90 to pay for November (3 classes)
